Advanced Placement Courses are courses identified by both The College Board and the school district as courses that meet rigorous content requirements. We strongly encourage students to take the most rigorous coursework they are comfortable with as this will only benefit them when it is time for college. Courses offered in KISD are weighted and students are encouraged to take the corresponding AP exams in May of each school year in order to possibly earn college credit. Each individual college or university extablishes policy regarding how AP credit will be handled; this information is usually addressed on college websites. There are several good reasons for students to take AP classes and exams but the most common reasons given by students and families are:
1. This is an excellent way to earn college credit while still in high school, which will allow families to save money on college tuition, textbooks, etc.
2. Passing an AP exam is one measure of the requirements needed to be recognized for the Distinguished Achievement Plan.
3. Being successful in AP courses is good for students' high school transcripts and GPA's.

AP Exam Registration will open on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 and end on Monday, March 1, 2013. Until Feb. 1st, the cost of each test is $84, then the cost will increase to $89.
