2017 Transforming Learning School

Hillwood Middle School is one of just 19 elite campuses throughout Texas to be given the 2017 Schools Transforming Learning distinction by the Principals' Institute (PI).

The Principals' Institute awards the Schools Transforming Leadership distinction to campuses that are making exceptional strides on their journeys to provide innovative learning opportunities for all students.

Hillwood was recognized for the innovative steps it is taking to embrace an all-inclusive technological learning environment, implement the Engaged 2 Learn model, and provide more rigorous units of study, among other transformational efforts. HMS also touted its Husky Year End Studies (YES) initiative as providing a more balanced and reinvigorated state and local partnership with the campus.

Nominations for the honor were open to campuses led by any of the more than 300 PI participants or alumni who represent more than 72 Texas public school districts. PI is a statewide professional learning series designed to challenge thinking and help campus leaders develop and sustain transformative learning environments.
