Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week will be held during the week of October 23. Here's what's going on:

Monday, October 23 - "Use Your Head! Wear Red" - Students should wear red clothing to school. In addition, Black Creek Canine Detection will hold a student assembly in the morning.

Tuesday, October 24 -  "Don’t get Twisted Up with Drugs" – Students may wear their clothes inside out.

Wednesday, October 25 – "Your Future is Key so Stay Drug Free" - Students may dress for your future career. This theme is meant to get your student to begin thinking of future possibilities and interest in careers. Costumes do not have to be elaborate or store bought, however, they do need to be realistic career options. Costumes such as a princess, pirate, Ninja Turtle, or Sponge Bob would be perfect for Halloween, but they are not appropriate for this day, because they do not reflect a career goal.  If your child does not wish to dress up that day, feel free to substitute a HLES spirit shirt.

In addition, Marcene Weatherall, KISD Coordinator of Counseling Intervention, will host a parent only presentation about drug trends in Keller ISD from 12:00pm-1:00pm in the HLES Library.

Thursday, October 26 - "Your Future is Bright so Stay Drug Free"– Students may wear sunglasses to school .

Friday, October 27 - “Sock it to Drugs” – Students may wear crazy socks to school.

Picture Day Notes

Picture Day was October 17. If your child was absent, our retake day is scheduled for November 30. If you weren't able to send in your pre-payment for a photo package, you can still order online at www.Glamourcraft.com through this Thursday. Our school code is HLE17. After Thursday, you may still order online but you will be charged a $5.00 late fee and your picture package will be mailed to your home address.

NOTE: The class photo that was taken was done independently from Glamourcraft by our PTA Yearbook chairperson and is not available for purchase. Glamourcraft will be back in the spring for another round of individual student photos as well as a class photo that may be purchased at that time.

Field Day

Friday, October 27 is Field Day at HLES! Events will be held outdoors and students will participate in various team and individual events throughout the day (see map). A hamburger/hot dog lunch was offered to students and parents for a fee, however, the deadline to order has passed so if you missed it, plan to pack a sack lunch that day.  Please refer to the letter that was sent home to parents for specific details.

Parents are encouraged to come out and support your kids but must sign in at the front office before proceeding to the field.

PTA is also hosting a tailgate games hour from 2:00pm-3:00pm and needs 12 volunteers from each grade level.  Please consider signing up via the Sign Up Genius link.

Veterans Day Photo Request

We want to take the opportunity to thank and honor the loved ones of our students who are currently serving or have served in the military.

If you have a loved one who is a veteran and would like them recognized during our Veterans Day celebration on November 13, please send us a photo of him or her, and complete the form.  If you have more than one photo, make sure to note the name of the person on the photo so that we can recognize and put the correct name with the picture.  If you would prefer to scan the photo and send it as an attachment to an email, please include “Veterans Day” in the subject line and email it to maria.collins@kellerisd.net.  If you submitted a photo last year, you will not need to submit it again.  Please indicate that on the form or in your email.

Please, submit these no later than Friday, October 20. Late submissions may not be included in the presentation.

PTA Reflections Program

Reach your creative potential with the PTA Reflections art program! Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Students of all grades and abilities may participate and explore the arts based on the 2017-18 theme "Within Reach."

The submission deadline is November 8. See the flyer for more details.
