 Choir Instruction in KISD

Choir begins in the sixth grade. These classes focus on establishing and developing basic musical and performance skills building from the general music classes at the elementary level.  These choirs offer a variety of performance opportunities including concerts, community events, and U.I.L. contests.  Students are also encouraged to participate in individual events such as Solo & Ensemble Contest and All-Region Choir auditions.  Participation at the high school level includes solo/ensemble, TMEA auditions, Show Choir, and U.I.L. concert and sight-reading competitions.

 2008-2009 All-State Choir Members

On Saturday, February 10, Keller ISD choir members competed in the final round of TMEA All-State Choir auditions at Abilene H.S.  Only one-half of one percent of students who begin the audition process in September actually earns a place in the all-state choir.  Over 55, 000 students initially entered the All-State competitive process.

Eight Central High School choir students were named to all-state choirs and one student was designated as an alternate. Those students who earned this prestigious honor are: Stephen Bolduc, Kimberly Olson, Rebekah Jordan, Travis Threlkeld, Jason Schilder, Kyara Rucker, Chrystle Hicks, and Parker Havens.  Joey Crawford served as an alternate. The CHS All-State Choir students are under the directed by Leigh Ann McClure.

The following six Keller High School choir students earned a place in one of the All-State choirs.  Taylor Barnes, Chelsea Berner, Gary Sellers, Stephanie Peterson, Lauren Rivers, and Hayden Kellermeyer.  Also, Katherine Lowe earned the rank of 1st alternate. The KHS All-State Choir students are under the directed by Chi-Chi King.

All-State performances were held as part of the annual TMEA Clinic/Convention, Feb. 11-14, 2009.  Over 24,000 people from Texas and beyond attended over 290 workshops, 65 concerts and visited over 1,000 exhibit boots at this nation’s largest music educator’s convention.
